With help from the Animal Husbandry Curator at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, turtles seen at Rye Town Park were identified as painted turtles.

Northern Red Oak

Friends planted three Northern Red Oaks in the fall of 2014 to replace older trees.

Honey Locust

Friends planted a young honey locust in the park near the north entrance in fall of 2014.  The photo taken was at sunrise one August morning.

Pond Gate

When the pond was restored to its present 2.5 acre expanse in 2002, temporary wire fencing surrounded part of its perimeter to protect newly-planted vegetation while it took root. The intent was to remove that wire fencing as the plantings matured, leaving a natural barrier of foliage instead.

In 2013, Friends decided to design and fund a custom iron gate to close off the stairs. which would allow pond access for maintenance purposes but protect park visitors and the pond's waterfowl from accident or injury at the same time.
